“I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a
shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly
coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in
a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I
want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making
sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt
under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there
with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my
shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived.”

My Mom and Dad |
This is the kind of mother I have, and the kind of
mother I hope to be.
My mom fought with the school lunch ladies (before
it was cool) so that we could have healthy lunches.
My mom helps my grandmother remain independent in
her own home by taking care of her every day.
My mom went with her daughters to China when she really wanted to go to Italy.
Mom and I on the Star Ferry in Hong Kong |
My mom sewed matching dresses for her daughters when
we were little and then sewed prom dresses and wedding dresses for us when we
were older, and now sews dresses for her granddaughters.
My mom knows everything. The neighbors say that “before there was Google,
there was Nedra”
Mom my took care of me and my new baby for weeks when I was sick (and a little crazy) making my family dinner and keeping my house clean.
My mom taught me to be capable, confident, and
courageous.
Mom, Happy Mother’s Day! I love you.
